The Report on the Status of Health in the European Union | The figures characterizing this Report are outstanding: involving more than 140 experts, from a number of States of the European Union (EU) and several inter-governmental, international and European Organizations, who have contributed to the implementation of the different parts of the Report; and more than 30 experts who have undertaken revision of the manuscripts. Moreover, the Report has been prepared during three years of work with the guidance and supervision of experts and officers designated by the Health Authorities of all the EU Member States, Croatia, Turkey, Iceland and Norway, as well as those coming from intergovernmental, international and European Organizations and Agencies. Also the size of the Report is impressive: it consists of more than 500000 words in English language. Furthermore, two summaries have been produced, an extended one (about 100 pages) and a synthetic one (about 40 pages), the latter translated in 20 EU national languages.
The aim of the Report is to provide a reliable and scientifically sound synthesis of (i) the status of health in the EU, (ii) the nature of determinants which affect human health, (iii) the performance of the health services and the main policies and control tools adopted to-date and, where possible, (iv) the assessment of their efficacy. It is a unique overview, which covers a wide range of pathologies, causing both ill-health and death, a multitude of agents and risk factors, examined also for their interactions, and a remarkable number of analyses regarding the public health policies at Community or Member State level. This Report, dealing with the whole EU, has been prepared taking into consideration several key trends relevant to the present time, i.e. the evolution of the socio-economic scenario, migration, globalisation, urbanisation, innovation, energy production and consumption, as well as changes in industry and in natural resources, agriculture and fisheries. The key aspects of the future work have been identified and highlighted as follows: (i) public health priorities, (ii) scientific research and innovation and (iii) civil society involvement and mobilization.
Current plans foresee the publication of the Report and its Summaries in the web only. Synthesis of the main findings of the Report |
